2023 March/April Update from Pr Tyler McMiller in Italy

In the first picture above to the right we have Elisa. Elisa is a Brazilian who moved to Italy a year ago. Having been a member of the Presbyterian Church, her catechism classes were full of conversations showing how what we believe is taken from the Bible as God’s Holy Word centered around Jesus Christ.

In the following picture above, we have our dear sister Paola at her confirmation. Paola had been a member of the Lutheran State Church of Switzerland before moving to Padua six months ago. Even though she was a member of that church, she had never received classes on what we believe, teach and confess. Paola was never afraid to ask questions, and I made sure to always lay our salvation squarely at the feet of our crucified Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Please remember both Elisa and Paola and the whole church in Padua in your prayers!

Through the weekly Italian sermons that we post online, I rejoiced that I was placed in contact with a man named Marco from a city near Padua called Ferrara (see picture below). Growing up Roman Catholic, Marco became distraught by how far that church had fallen from the Word of God and became inspired by Martin Luther’s story and by reading his theology. For many years he attended the Lutheran State Church in Bologna (a church that the LCMS is not affiliated with) but left that church after they too departed from the Word of God. Around a month ago, Marco had some complications after a surgery and I took the opportunity to visit him in Ferrara. With Marco too, I have begun catechism classes and he faithfully attends our Sunday Morning online Service of the Word. To God be the glory!

In the weeks before and after Easter, the house churches of the Confessional Lutheran Church of Italy throughout the Peninsula were strengthened by Word and Sacrament. We stand firm on the promise of our Lord that his Gospel will not return empty.
